With the days getting shorter and a little chill in the air both day and night the Chequamegon Bay Area definately has the feeling of fall. The produce is in full swing. Just check out the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings from 8am until Noon on Chapple Ave. You will find tons of garden goods. Schools will be starting in a week and it’s now “Fair Time”. This weekend is the Bayfield County Fair in Iron River and September 2-6 is the Ashland County Fair at the Fairgrounds in Marengo. We all love the leaves as they start turning to the vibrant Autumn colors. Enjoy the late summer and early fall weather!

Chequamegon Bay Tagged Fishing Contest, Now through October 31, 2010
We invite you to come and join us for the Annual Tagged fishing Contest on Chequamegon Bay in Ashland, WI. This year we’ve tagged more species of fish to help “lure” you into the contest! You must purchase a 2010 Tagged Fishing Pin prior to catching a tagged fish. Pins can be purchased for only $5.00 and a portion is given to the Chequamegon Bay Re-Stocking program. The top prize is $1,000.00 on a smallmouth bass. The 6 species (12 fish) tagged are: Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Northern Pike, Steelhead, & Brown Trout. The 12 fish tagged are worth: 1 fish, $1000.00, 2 fish worth $500.00, 4 fish worth $200.00, 2 fish worth $100.00 and 3 fish worth prizes to include free lodging and dining and chamber dollars. Tagged fish can be checked in at the following locations: Angler’s All - 2803 Lake Shore Drive East, Ashland, River Rock Inn & Bait Shop - 1200 Lake Shore Drive West, Ashland and Outdoor Allure - 1813 West Bayfield Street, Washburn. Start planning your Scarecrow for September 20th through WhistleStop October 8th and 9th. Be creative and build a fun scarecrow for the front of your business or home. There will be prizes given away for the Business Scarecrow winner and the Residential Scarecrow winner. The completed scarecrow must be on display the week of September 20th-25th. We ask that you leave them on display through WhistleStop weekend.

Bay Days Ashland’s Got Talent Show Winner!

Congratulation to “Vocal Effect” on winning the Ashland’s Got Talent Show during Bay Days, July 18th. All the talent was superb!! Vocal Effect is made up of 4 High School Boys, Joe Weber, Drew Emmert, Brandon Blaskowski and Garret Tutland who just graduated and will be going on to college. They did a great job performing for Bay Days. A special Thank You to all the performers for aduditioning and performing for Ashland’s Got Talent. Great Job to all the performers!!! Oh! and wasn’t the Polka Band Awesome???

The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce presents; Ashland Bay Days, July 16th through the 18th at Bayview Park across from Pamida. There will be Arts and Crafts and Food Vendors all weekend. Look for great entertainment including: Badge and Acoustic Relapse on Fri Night, Bay Area Battle of the Bands on Saturday Night, Northland Lumberjack Choir, Dixieland Band, Chequamegon Bay Band, 4 His Majesty Quartette and Ashland’s Got Talent on Sunday. The kids will love the 4-H Activities Tent and the Coloring Contest (the coloring contest is open to ages 2-12). Toddlers will join the Toddler Run (open to ages 2-4), Big Wheel Race, Kid’s Say the Darn’dest Things and more. There is still time to register for the MudRutter’s Off Road Bike Race, the 3on3 Basketball Tournament, the Chequamegon Bay Sprint Triathlon, the Cardboard Boat Races, Waitress & Waiter Relays, or the Pie Eating Contest open to ages 3 through Adult. New this year is “Bam Bam on the Bay” during the Strongest Man on the Bay Contest. This should be so fun watching the little weight lifters! Apostle Islands Inline Marathon/Half Marathon…A Huge Success!!!!

What a great event on Madeline Island and LaPointe this past Saturday, June 19th. Apostle Islands Inline Marathon/Half Marathon and Mad Fun Skate was a lot of fun and a great day for skating. Racers loved this event sponsored by the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce. Skate the Skate!!! Glide on In!!! Heading Home on Wheels!!! Just a few of the sayings you would hear as the skaters crossed the finish line during the 1st Annual Apostle Islands Inline Marathon/Half Marathon.
