2010 was a good year for the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. We moved to our new location at 1716 West Lake Shore Drive. We love our new location and tourists can find us so easily. If you haven’t stopped by, please find time to stop in and see our new building. 2010 also brought a few new events to the Ashland Chamber. The Apostle Island Inline Marathon/Half Marathon on Madeline Island was a huge success in its first year. But then again how could it be anything else on beautiful Madeline Island in Ashland County. The “Diamond Detective Promotion” was a huge hit in February. Look for this promotion to surface again around Valentines Day. We are hopeful that 2011 will be every bit as successful and fun as 2010. Happy New Year everyone from the Ashland Chamber of Commerce.

Snowmobile Trails will open December 17th! Ride!! Ride!! Ride!!

The Ashland County snowmobile trails will officially open on Friday, December 17th. The trails throughout the County should be groomed next Monday, December 20th according to the Ashland County Snowmobile Alliance. The Tri-County Corridor has been groomed today, December 16th. Enjoy your ride on the beautiful, scenic, miles of trails in Ashland County.

We need snow for the 2010/2011 snowmobile season to begin. The scheduled date for snowmobiling in Ashland County is Thursday, December 17th. The Ashland County Snowmobile Alliance will determine if the trals will open on December 17th. For an update check out www.visitashland.com

Every morning starting December 1st,and running through December 22nd, between 10am and 10:15am, a picture will be posted on our website at www.visitashland.com. Once there, click the Elfie link. Then from 10:15am-11am, you can place one email with one guess per day.If you are the first to guess the correct location (place), and where specifically Elfie is in that location, you will win $25.00 in Chamber Dollars. If no one guesses the correct answer by 11am, we add another $25.00 in Chamber Dollars to the pot. If someone guesses the correct location, they win the Chamber Dollars available and we place a new picture on the website the next day. Have Fun!!! CenturyLink WhistleStop Marathon/Half Marathon and the great Blues and Brews Festival was just awesome this year. Reports are coming in that this was the best WhistleStop ever. Of Course the beautiful weather and spectacular color on the trees sure did help. Thanks to all the runners and fans for coming in to the 13th Annual WhistleStop Festival. Fishing on the Big Blue Lake, Lake Superior

Fighting the wind and rain has been a real task this year when fishing the Big Lake, but reports have been coming in that the fish are biting in spite of a little bad weather. Fish tend to be a little skittish when the weather is a bit windy but the anglers report the Browns are biting and the Rainbows are in the Bay. The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Conference was in Ashland and the writers reported going on the Big Lake was a very productive trip. Keep in mind Lake Trout fishing is done the end of September. There is still plenty of fishing weather left to plan a fishing trip on the Big Lake where Anglers will catch many species of fish. Come and visit Ashland and plan your fishing trip real soon!!!

The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Conference is in Ashland this Week

There are 154 writers, spouses, corporate sponsors, and Aglow Members in Ashland this week for their Annual Conference. The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce is so pleased to have this group of writers in Ashland. The writers have been on many trips around Chequamegon Bay, fishing, hunting, taking pictures, and enjoying the outdoors. They are anxious to put pen to paper and write stories about this area. Thanks to all the writers for coming to Ashland for the 2010 AGLOW Conference. We are so glad you came and we look forward to reading all the stories you write. Come back real soon and visit us!!!
